Tuesday- Thank you Fay

Slept until 8AM. Coffee and watching news and olympics.

Breakfast- chicken, apple, peach, almonds.
3-3-6.

As a former teacher, there is a saying I learned: 'By teaching, I am forever being taught.' Now, I amend that to, 'In Crossfit and nutrition, I am forever being taught!' A little corny, but true. I have read through The Paleo Diet and now know that I am eating way too many eggs. As of today, cutting back. Of course, this is occurring in my life when for the first time, I am preparing to have blood work done. I hold off on eggs for years, then indulge in them for a short period, only to figure out that I should be using more sparingly as I go to my first general MD appointment ever since living in Ft. Myers. Smile. Lesson learned here for me is that word, indulge. Moderation seems to be the answer.....hmmmm, sounds familiar.

Lunch- salad with chicken, avacado, tomato, red onion, broccoli, peach. Lemon, chili pepper. Beautiful and delicious.
3-3-6

Ran a little 3 miler (best guess) with MK before she leaves town. Quite windy out. Was there a storm or something? We were the only freaks out for a jog.

Snakola of chicken, tomatoes, almonds.
1-1-2

Thanks to coach for addressing the egg convo. I am sure I will learn more as I go along.

Din- Salmon with Curry Sauce from Paleo book, 1/2B brocc/cauli mix, 1/2B roasted red peppers, 1B eggplant, almonds. Shared a peach with Pauly for dessert.
3-3-6. Salmon recipe was very good, but I am still looking for the home run with salmon.

Snack- salmon, strawberries w/ cinnamon, almonds.
1-1-2

Paleo day-
11-11-22

  1. Glad you were able to read up on the eggs. I hope it doesn't affect your testing..Good luck with that. I'll let you borrow my athlete book when I get back from vacation if you would like it....One week without my crossfit or sarah what am I going to do???? I'll try n keep up with things while I'm gone but I'm sure the intensity will not be the same. Feel free to kick my butt into shape when I get back, i'm going to need it! Take care!!!! 3. Sarah, one more quick note - Robb W. answering a question regarding good and bad cholesterol levels. Sorry for the long post - straight from his blog:

    [Pete to RW]:

""However, I can’t go without one question for you. What is a healthy cholesterol? I used to be below 130 but I am now around 180 with this diet. This might be a good thing, though. Taubes talks about a Japanese study in which those with little overall cholesterol were more at risk for cancer and other diseases. My cholesterol might just be adjusting to normal levels due to pretty much living my whole life under the “low-fat lie.”

    thanks once again, Pete

    [Robb Wolf]:

    PETE!!

That’s a good question and I don’t know that there is a single answer to that. Cordain has a piece looking at the cholesterol’s of hunter gatherers and his assessment was “the lower the better” but there is no doubt about a threshold at which stroke and other disease appear to emerge. I also think the cholesterol levels of the Inuit and Ache are quite high, yet they suffer no ill effects because of the ratios of blood lipids and the low inflammatory state due to no refined carbohydrate intake. I need to give this some more thought, go through some old papers and do a post on the relative blood chemistry’s between a healthy high and low cholesterol level. No simple, easy answers, that is for sure!""

*No easy answer, however I tune-in to the fact that RW mentions "inflammtory response" due to refined carb intake. ~ J

  4. Hi Sarah... I miss seeing you too. We need to do some hanging out outside of CF! At a minimum we'll catch some Gator football together... J and I had fun doing that last season... esp when they were winning cuz it made you very happy! i think when it comes to the eggs you need to do what you are comfortable with... given mixed advice from the diet sources we are using makes it challenging to say the least... one says no eggs, one says six max a week, RW says eat eggs but doesn't quantify (wonder if we could get a # from him?) I am having bloodwork this week too... will be interesting to learn results... been two years but all was good then. Hope the weather cooperates for Sat beach WOD been lookn forward to it. Oh... I am always happy when i am not too far behind you and MK since I set my bar based on the two of you... good job on yesterdays WOD! Hope to see you soon.

  5. Not sure about the walnut vs. almond issue. I have been eating both but more almonds than walnuts. Had not read all of the Paleo book before I gave it to MK but just ordered a Cordain book today that deals with Paleo diet and skin health... the book is basically the Paleo diet with special attention to what to eat/not eat for improved skin health... which I am very interested in... should get it in a few days... then just need to find the time to read it... very hard for me to keep my eyes open at night to read.
